You: "Here's the thing, my buddy named Jake has been dating this cool girl for the last 4 years and the both of them went out a few days ago and got really really drunk, and he said that he loved her. when they woke up the next afternoon, he really tried to take it back. Can someone do that?"
Them: No you can't!

And then you continue from that point. I've utilized this a million times and it go perfectly all the time.
