Will Giving Him An Ultimatum Make Him Commit?

By Kay Toddingtone

All you want is that safe feeling of knowing that your relationship is moving in a positive direction. All you want is a little reassurance that you are in a committed relationship instead of wondering where you're going to be in five years. You want to be married someday and you want your boyfriend to make some sort of movement towards that day when you walk down the aisle. Every time you bring up the question, your boyfriend avoids it or changes the subject and you're left bewildered and frustrated.

You're done messing around and you need an answer. You want a definite answer. He loves you and you love him. Why won't he give you the assurance that a girl wants and needs. Then you come up with a bright idea that is sure to make him give in and agree to move your relationship to the next level.

You will make him commit by giving him an ultimatum. You'll simply tell him that you want a date and a ring on your finger or you're thinking that it's time to move on. All your girlfriends agree that this has been going on way too long and that giving him an ultimatum to make him commit might just do the trick. But let's think about this for a minute.

Before you call him up and tell him that you need to have a serious talk, think through what you're about to do. Understand that if you do approach the subject of moving your relationship forward in this manner that it might not end so well. Confronting your boyfriend with such a demand will be viewed as a threat by him and it's probably not going to be received quite as well as you might hope. Put yourself in his spot and think how you would feel if he threatened you in such a way.

What if your boyfriend tried to push you into making your relationship a certain way? What if he wanted you to agree to an open relationship so he could date other girls? Would you agree? This is how your boyfriend feels when you try to push him when you give him the ultimatum to make him commit.

It is absolutely possible to make him commit to your relationship and even to marry you. Of course, pushing him and trying to give him an ultimatum to make him commit isn't the way. You'll only come off like a witch and make matters worse. Pushing and demanding is not the way to make him commit and it's not the loving way to draw your man closer to you.

While it can be difficult to understand why your boyfriend doesn't want to commit to you and give you that assurance that you want and the ultimate display of love, it really isn't personal. It has nothing to do with you and how much he loves you. It has to do with him and what goes on inside so many men when they are in a relationship that reaches this point. You need to understand that threats aren't going to make him worship the ground that you walk on but understanding what lies under the surface and what you can do to overcome those obstacles with your man can and will make him want to commit to you. The only thing that you have any control over is yourself and you alone can make him see that being with you forever is a gift and not a jail sentence.
